# Using the PWA

This is for users who have received some funds from the Zerosats team to test out our payments application.

Thank you for testing out zerosats! A few notes to cover nuances related to the app.

The app is a PWA. This means that it lives in your browser and the application state is saved there.

There is currently no way to back up the pwa, but as long as you don’t clear browser history, your wallet state should persist. Probably best to not close browser tab in your phone to ensure you don’t lose access to your sats.

### How payments work

Zerosats payments are generated through links. Every claimable payment has an accompanying QR code and link.

When you scan a QR code to receive a payment, it opens your web browser and takes you directly to a wallet that claims the link.

To make a payment, you enter the amount and generate a link. You then allow the receiving party to scan the QR code to receive or you send them the link through a messaging channel (i.e. Signal).

If your counterparty does not claim a payment, you can reclaim it to your wallet.

Note, anyone who has access to the link can claim the payment.

### Creating a wallet

To create a wallet, you simply go to pwa.lx.dev and create a PIN. Every time you open the wallet, you will be prompted to enter that PIN.

We'd recommend that you **do not** create the wallet in a private browser window. We've seen private browser storage get wiped and delete the wallet, meaning you'd lose access to funds.

### Saving PWA to home screen

You can save the PWA to your home screen. In android, the application works as intended. Every time you scan a QR code it opens up your PWA and let’s you claim the link.

iOS is a bit different. Scanning a QR code takes you to your browser and opens a new tab. If you claim the link in this flow, you’ll create a new wallet. If this happens, don’t worry, you can simply create a new note and send it to your saved PWA.

in iOS, if users save the PWA to home screen, we recommend users simply copy payment links and paste them within the app to receive.

### Lightning payments

We only support paying of lightning invoices. payments directly to a lightning address will not work. Lightning payments take around 6-12 seconds usually. If your lightning payment fails, you will be able to claim the funds after an 80 minute timeout period.

### Lightning receive disabled

This is experimental software. We have disabled lightning receive for the time being so users do not swap their own sats into the wallet. If you understand the risks, and are still okay with using your own funds, message Janusz to get a version of the PWA with lightning deposits enabled.
